The Block stars share their tips for making Christmas as pain-free as possible

With Christmas only a week away, the stars from The Block have offered up a few tips and tricks for surviving the silly season.

Speaking to 9Now on Wednesday, the show’s stars put their home makeover expertise to good use, revealing how they make Christmas special and stress-free.

Shaynna Blaze confessed she ‘did the lazy thing’ and bought a Christmas tree with LED lights already on it.

The 56-year-old celebrity interior designer said she had saved herself both the ‘stress’ and ‘time’ involved in setting up a Christmas tree.

Host Shelley Craft said she doesn’t just decorate the tree inside her house, revealing she also takes the festive spirit to her garden.

The 43-year-old TV presenter said she hangs decorations from the trees around her property, making the ‘garden feel special’.

Interior designer Darren Palmer, 42, said he always picks a colour scheme for Christmas based on how he wants his guests to ‘feel’.

This year’s winners Tess, 28, and Luke, 30, agree with the suggestion of working to a colour scheme, revealing this year their home would be decorated with ‘dusty pink, rose gold and gold’. 

‘Less clutter on the tree the better,’ they added, revealing Tess has a tendency to be ‘very OCD’ when it comes to decorating at Christmas time.

Fellow contestants Deb, 46, and Andy, 48, prefer to focus on food, serving up ‘grazing boards’ for their guests during the festive season.

‘Last Christmas I used an entire table top and did a big breakfast grazing table for Christmas morning,’ revealed Deb. 

‘My tip to make them look good is to decant your dips into interesting bowls and use green leaves like baby spinach to fill any gaps.

‘Use food that is easy to eat in your hands. I do fruit and chocolate boards too and they are always a hit!’

Jesse, 29, and Mel, 31, said they try to make their Christmas tree ‘stand out’ each year, and said they’d chosen a black tree this year with lots of lights.

Despite their flamboyant personalities, Mitch, 56, and Mark, 57, said they always try to ‘keep things simple’ when it comes to Christmas, favouring tradition.

Meanwhile, El’ise, 33, and Matt, 39, said it’s all about sharing the responsibility to help make things less stressful.

‘Make sure everyone brings a dish, so it’s not left up to one person to do,’ explained El’ise. 

She added: ‘Do a secret Santa for at least one side of the family so that it’s not as stressful for everyone, as we all know how expensive Christmas is.’
